Avenguard: Carrion Crown

The Trial

It was the upset of the century. We managed to find enough evidence to convince the court that the Beast of Lepistadt was not guilty of the accused crimes. He has almost certainly done things in the past, but he did not do these crimes.

We loaded up everything from v and g’s and brought it to the court. Poppy MASTERFULLY played the judges and made them see the truth. We helped the beast to the edge of town and he asked us to visit him in a couple of days.

We finally got a minute of down time, so we all rested up and went to Calzad to trade in some of our gear for better and new gear. We went early in the morning, then came back in the evening to gather our wares.

What we found was Vorstag (I think I don’t remember which is which) with a knife to Calzad’s throat. The big question is….what will we do?

My vote is to talk him down and make sure we save Calzad’s life. If it’s not possible to talk him down, we need to disable him and/or kill. I’d rather diable the crap out of him and submit him to the authorities. If he kills Calzad though, it’ll be the last thing he ever does.

Vorstag and Grine

As we were about to investigate Vorstag and Grine’s Chemic Works, we received news of a riot. It turns out the townspeople were trying to break into the beasts cell and have him burned at the stake.

We were able to prevent them from doing this by having Tuva, Inge, and Sattiva guard the doors. Tim went to the rooftop to survey the layout more clearly and promptly broke his bow. Tim was able to prevent any close up damage by casting Entangle around the building. Poppy ended the entire thing by casting stinking cloud and making everyone go home.

We didn’t kill anyone, but one of the ringleaders did. Though it’s not our fault, we’ll offer some gold to the family of the killed person.

Then we investigated V&Gs.

When we knocked and said that we had a warrant, this gnome thing laughed and slammed the door in our face. So Inge climbed the wall and opened the door from the inside of the courtyard. Unfortunately, there was a flesh golem hound we had to fight. It was a simple but terrifying fight, as every hit the hound dished out did 1/3 of Tuva’s hits.

After we killed the hound, we searched the stables and storeroom and managed to blow up some chemicals and kill some grotesque looking humanoids.

Then we entered the main area with the vats of chemicals. Inge dropped to the ground to get a better look around and was IMMEDIATELY surrounded by the humanoids. To make matters worse, the gnome thing started throwing poison axes at us.

Then the other member of V&G came out and started throwing bombs at us. We unloaded everything we had at him. Tim was loosing arrows and Poppy cast a lightning bolt at him. After killing all the humanoids, we had scared V&G enough that they left.

Once they were gone, we explored the rest of the factory and found a great many disturbing things.

One ‘bedroom’ looked more like an operating room. There was a 4 post bed and 2 talles (tables? I can’t read my handwriting). Shelves that held bell jars with body parts in them. We found a lockbox under his bed and the key for it in a vial of acid. There was also a ladder up to a tower. we found air and other odd items (we found other stuff but i’ll compile a list at the bottom)

The other bedroom looked like a library. Lots of books and more stuff in jars, HOWEVER, in the closet is was a dresser that had literal skins in it. Like human skins. One of them specifically was very large and looked almost sewn together. The large one also had bit marks where ‘the beast’ was bitten by a blood caimen.

Then we went into the basement and found a secret entrance to the sewers along with a body and a ledger of sales I believe

We are in the process of gathering all the evidence, loading a cart and taking it to someone to verify it all.

List of items we found. The starred ones are probably trial related:
Ebony tribal mask
*Silver torc
*Mammoth Tusk
*Small metal strongbox
*****Cabinet with freaking people skins in it
*Ledger in the basement
4 vials of anti-toxin
3 packets of flash powder
5 packets of alchemical grease

Depending on the time, (and since Tim won’t be sleeping tonight anyway), I think we should take the time to do a thorough search (take 20) on all the possible trial related stuff. Furthermore, once we’ve searched the cabinet, we should have someone see if they can tell who the skins are from.

THE EVIDENCE SO FAR (please excuse how disjointed this is, i’m copy/pasting from our earlier posts AND trying to decipher words written on a piece of notebook paper over the course of 5 sessions LOL)

This next section is all the evidence so far, starting from the first day of the trial, through the prism of what we now think we know.

His shoulder was not scarred even though he was supposedly bitten by an alligator
He supposedly bled when bit (he’s a golem)
Surgical tools there (too clumsy to use)
– (NEW) Surgical tools were traced to V&G
A face mask of Nan was there (he wouldn’t be able to cut it/clumsy)
– (NEW) Cut by V&G with surgeon tools cause they LIKE TO DO THAT
Golem is too dumb to stalk people when they’re alone
There was a potion of darkvision (golem wouldn’t need)
Hidden boat (golem is too heavy)
There were rations and a waterskin which a golem doesn’t need
Graves were indented/looted
– (NEW) V&G are gravestealers

Crying and laughing look the same.
The Beast would not be smart enough to imitate children to lure them out of the house.
The Beast could not have made it into the house by any entrance (window or door) without breaking something.
WE ENCOUNTERED A GHOST! The Beast was in prison and therefore could not have attacked us.
WE ENCOUNTERED A GHOST! The Beast cannot drain energy in such a way.
no marks on siding
Karin died two days AFTER the beast left
Karin died in her sleep
Karin’s window latches from the inside

Day 3
Skin of a beast with bite marks on his shoulder
Brada said ‘a monster’ set his place on fire NOT ‘The Beast of Leipstadt’
V&G worked with brada delivering body parts
We need to talk with Karl and figure out if he knew about V&G
Also describe the beast of lep AND the skin suit to Karl, see which one he recognizes

we need to figure out if any of the NON CABINET stuff we got from V&G is evidence.

From all of the evidence presented at one, it becomes clear that the ‘best’ is not guilty of the accused crimes. Not only is he not guilty, but in 2 of the 3 cases, we know who the guilty parties are.

The swamps of morast were indeed plagued by a beast, but not this one. V&G used the large sewn together skin to abduct people and steal from the graves to sell body parts. They also got sick pleasure out of skinning people and wearing their skins.

The village of hergstag was plagued by a ghost or wraith that killed the children. The ‘beast’ was friends with Elsa and cried when she died and he couldn’t harm the ghost/wraith.

Sanctuary was again the fault of V&G. Maybe a deal went bad, maybe V&G planned to kill Brada all along. V&G had a history of illegally selling body parts to Brada and the gruesome nature of the crime fits them perfectly.

Thoughts of Poppy
Well it seems that the townsfolk’s anxiety and anger has finally boiled over. I guess we

did prove our point quite well this morning, except for our point of Ed not being able to physically being able to kill the last girl Karin in her bedroom. Not sure why the easiest piece of evidence to understand is the one the townsfolk chose not to believe.
I expected the townsfolk to start putting their attention on me and my friends since we are trying to find evidence to prove the beast innocent or at least not to be executed. We probably should have taken proactive measures to quench the brewing riot before today. Calzad it seems asked the troupe that we came into the city with to try and humor the crowd.
I feel that it is going to be a long sleepless night with the riot starting, our investigation into Vorstag and Grimes for being connected to the tools and the bleach in that macabre examining room in the old hospital. and getting someone who can decipher some information from the box of papers in the box we found. I feel that i might have to deal with the riot being one of the few that could affect a large number of people without killing them. Someone should bring the papers to the Professor at the University, I’m sure that he has had decipher languages and decrepit books for his studies. Also a warrant would be nice to investigate the chemical works. I just hope we can convince these people to allow the justice system to work instead of taking matters into their own hands.

Another Beautiful Day in Herstag
Why we ask questions

After the first day of the trial, we decided to head out to Herstag. At the last minute, we decided to get a bit of information from The Beat prior to leaving town.

The Beast is now called Ed.

He also has no tear ducts, so when he cries, like he does about his friend Elsa, he looks like his laughing.

Point 1 for trial: Crying and laughing look the same.

We then talked to the barrister who informed us that the town was abandoned approximately seven months ago after the last incident. The witnesses are three ladies who runt he mill outside of the current town we are in. We went there to talk to MacBeth’s witches.

They informed us that the children heard giggling outside their house in the middle of the night, and then went outside to see who it was. They then disappeared, never to be found again. Allen disappeared by his house. Gard, Martin, Rachel and Elsa ran outside their houses and disappeared. Karin was found in her bed.

The ladies did not want to give us any more information, so we had to move on.

We were provided a map of Herstag and the map indicated where each child’s house was. When we got to town, we got to do the Dance of the Bear Traps.

We checked a few different houses and saw creepy children attacking us, but were able to fend them off.

We went to Karin’s house and discovered no doors or windows were broken and the windows were latched from the inside.

Point 2 for trial: The Beast would not be smart enough to imitate children to lure them out of the house.
Point 3 for trial: The Beast could not have made it into the house by any entrance (window or door) without breaking something

After a search of Karin’s house, we continued searching the town, specifically the children’s houses. We then encountered a ghost, which drained many of us of certain abilities. Not only did we encounter it, but we believe it could have been what caused the children’s demises. Also, the children ghosts we encountered seemed to be similar to the ghost AND seemed to be following it.

Point 4 for trial: WE ENCOUNTERED A GHOST! The Beast was in prison and therefore could not have attacked us.
Point 5 for trial: WE ENCOUNTERED A GHOST! The Beast cannot drain energy in such a way.

While in town, we discovered a turquoise pendant, gold and silver, a silver pocket knife, and master’s thieves tools. (I will point out at this point in time during the day, I was away from the table doing laundry, so I don’t know where we found these items and/or what we thought we knew about them.)

We traveled back to town to find Timothy asleep in the wagon and no room at the inn.

Timothy and Calzad's Excellent Adventure 4/17

Timothy’s notes:
So, after leaving the party, you make your way back to town to the main market square (though not an actual square). On the way, you think of what you’ll be doing for an inn, but decide on just sleeping near the carts…thus not spending any actual time looking for an inn. Good for you.

Time: 4:30

Now, looking at the note Silas gave you, you know that Calzad should be nearby, it’s just a matter of where. You start asking around to some of the merchants. It only takes about 30 min, due to having to wait for people to take a moment to talk with you, but you are pointed to an area just outside of the bazaar. You are told to go down an alley down the way and take your first left that you find. You can’t miss him, provided he’s there.

Time: 5:00pm

You walk down the alley, a few people are walking around but it is far more quiet than the main road. You can still hear the murmurs and calls from the area, but where you are is far different. You walk quietly and find the first left, another long alley that goes between buildings. Ahead you see blankets and tarps hung between them to make a roof. Under them is what you would guess is a merchant tent, but it’s unlike most you’ve seen before.

The area is clean, but nothing is on display. There are items of all kinds laying around and boxes with what you could guess would be goods of some kind, but there does not seem to be a rhyme or reason to it. Some items have layers of dust on them while others look brand new. In one corner you see about 12 bolts of random cloth stacked together, in another, a barrel with poles and quarterstaves in disarray. The area smells of incense and other sundries. There is a desk against one of the buildings and a dwarf sits on a tall chair, looking over some papers. He doesn’t seem to pay attention to you coming close.

I walk up to him and say ‘Hello, Slias from Ravengro said you might be able to help us out in a jam. I’m Timothy and I am a traveler and kind of merchant and I’m looking to hire the services of an exceptional investigator or someone who knows the city inside and out. I’d be willing to pay you gold for assistance finding one, but I also have a merchant cart full of goods and I’d be willing to offer you some for free or at a heavily reduced price depending on what it is.’

The dwarf slowly turns in his chair, a set of glasses sitting on his nose. I says nothing as his arm moves onto the back of the chair but his eyes take you in. He lets you finish speaking and continues to say nothing.

Finally he gets up from his chair and takes off his glasses. He slowly cleans them with his shirt then puts them back into place. When he speaks, the words are strong and precise. “That is a lot to take in son and you are rather trusting to just tell me all of that information. If I were to to want to, I could have you followed in order to steal everything from your ‘cart full of goods’.”

He lets you think about that a moment before talking again. “You said Silas sent you? Do you have proof of that?” He slowly walks to another counter, taking a glass from a small shelf and pours himself a drink from a pot, the steam coming off of it right away.

Silas said that you were trustworthy, and he did give me this note, but you are right and I should be more cautious.’

I set the note down on the table in front of him.

‘I apologize for being so abrupt with my introduction also. I didn’t mean to offend. It is only that I must find the owner of a set of tools before the morning after next.’

The dwarf sips from his cup as he takes the note. He looks it over and gives a huff as he walks back to his desk.

“I trust Silas is doing well. He didn’t steal from you did he?” He grabs a few papers on his desk and looks over them slowly as he talks.

I laugh.
‘Not literally of course, but he certainly has a way with words. No doubt he got the better end of our dealings, but he was entertaining and certainly capable. At the end of the day, if he needed help or a favor, I wouldn’t think twice about helping him out.’

The dwarf listens to you then nods. “Good.”

He puts his papers down again and looks to you directly, everything about him is very matter of fact. “Now, what can I help you with?”

I pull out the surgical tool and set it on the table.
‘I’m trying to find the owner of this tool. I suspect he or she has committed serious crimes. So far, I know they were sold 18 months ago by Zablor and Sons. I also know that they sold them to Vladka Costel. I need help finding someone that knows the city intimately that can help me find Vladka. I suppose if she sold them to another, I’d need help finding that person also.’

Calzad takes the tool in his hand and readjusts his glasses. He runs his fingers over the tool, turning it around and then finally looking at the makers mark as you pointed out. He nods and then thinks for a moment.

“Vladka works for Ledov’s Chirurgery Merchants. Ollo Klud is the Auction Master over there. If you need additional help, we’ll need to start talking about a fee.” His voice is very business like. “I have more than a few resources that can help you, I just need to know what you’re offering.”

As you talk, a small child comes from the back of the ‘tent’. He sees you there talking and freezes in his spot, waiting. Calzad spots him after speaking to you, putting up a hand in motion to ask you to wait and walks over to the boy. The boy speaks quietly (in Dwarven if you can hear it). Calzad goes back to his desk, looking through some papers, writes something down. He folds it, drops some gold wax on it, and presses his ring to it. He hands it back to the boy and he runs off. He then goes back to you, “Sorry about that, business to run.”

‘First, thank you for the information. Second, I need the best and fastest resources available. I’d be willing to pay you in trade goods, masterwork weapons and armor, or regular gold and gems. I’d go talk to Ollo Klud myself, but it’s no secret that I’m more comfortable in the country with animals than talking with city folk. How much would it cost to hire you and the services of your retainers?’

He thinks a moment and nods. “I would be willing to help for 20g for the rest of the day. If we need to work tomorrow, perhaps we can work out a trade of goods. You will need to give me a half hour to get a couple of things working on their own before we can go. If you want someone a bit cheaper, I can find someone for you within the hour. I would guess their fee would run 3 gold for the rest of the day.”

I breathe a sigh of relief. ‘Thank you! Because time is an issue and in case it takes a few greased palms, I’m willing to pay extra AND pay for tomorrow.’
I take a 100gp gem (from the judge originally) out of my coin pouch and place it on the table in front of him.
‘Do you need me to come with you, or would you and your agents prefer to work on their own?’

Calzad takes the gem, opens a small cubby and pulls out an eye piece. He examines the gem and nods, placing it in a pocket on his vest.

“You are more than welcome to travel with me if you wish, you do not need to. Believe me, you will not be in my way. It’s a matter if you wish to have first-hand knowledge of what we’re doing or not.”

With that, he gives a sharp whistle. A young girl comes from the same area the small boy came from. She comes in and stands in roughly the same spot. He speaks again to her in dwarven. The girl nods and responds. Her words are very broken. Calzad has to repeat himself a couple of times and the girl repeats herself a few times. Calzad seems to be patient, but the tone is still very curt. Finally the girl scurries off.

“Give me some time, I will be with you in a bit. Would you like something to drink? You can sit over there if you wish to wait, or come back within the half hour.” He points to a small set of three chairs. Each different from the other. One quite plus but showing it’s years, another new and uncomfortable looking, and the last simple and well used.

‘Thank you for your offer. I will come with you for a while, but will leave if you decide I am a nuisance. I will have a bit to drink while I wait, so thank you again.’
I pour myself a warm drink, sit in the simple and well used chair and try to relax.

Time: 5:00pm

You speak with Calzad and negotiate terms (as well as a couple of interruptions and his time getting things in order). Before he’s free to go, at least 2 other street urchins are called on and given letters. Finally he grabs a small pack and throws it over his shoulder ready to go.

Time: 5:45pm

The two of you set out for the Ledov’s Chirurgery Merchants. It’s down by the courthouse, so it takes you both a bit to get there. The crowd continues to be think, the burning man outside the courthouse continues to get more and more wood. People don’t seem overly swayed by the first day of the trial. If anything more energetic because it’s actually started.

Time: 6:15pm

The two of you walk in and find the woman in question, Vladka. Calzad seems to be at least aware of her and the two make some general talk. Finally the tools come up in conversation. She isn’t sure who exactly won that auction, but she does remember that they word an unusual high hat and green-tinted reading glasses. Calzad presses her a bit more but she insists she doesn’t remember anything more.

The two of you then walk through the auction house and find Ollo Klud, the Auction House owner. He’s balding with small tufts of hair above his ears. His clothes fine and his demeanor much that he is the king of this roost.

Once again, Calzad seems to have at least a base knowledge of the guy. The two of them talk, Ollo speaking in a fairly lively way whereas Calzad keeps his conversation quite directed. Calzad asks about the item. Ollo does remember the item but refuses to give his sources. Calzad seems a bit frustrated by it, but continues the conversation. They talk a bit longer, the conversation steering to the odd people of town. At one point Calzad mentions something about green tinted glasses with and odd hat and Ollo without missing a beat says “Oh yes, you must be talking about Radniche!” There is a boisterous laugh. Calzad drops the act, curtly says thanks and pulls you out the door.

Calzad mumbles something about people not doing business straight but continues down the way, back to the Surgeons’ Flats. (back for you that is).

Time: 7:25pm

You find yourself in front of an odd shop. The building in general is in serious disrepair. The two of you enter the shop. There is one wall lined with jars of various sizes holding a wide assortment of things floating in liquids of all kinds. There are a couple of skeletons hanging in another section. In the middle of the room are shelves holding curiosities. Behind the counter is a gaunt man, green spectacled reading glasses on his nose. Calzad and him talk, the man just oozes sleeze. Calzad asks about the tool, but Radniche doges his words saying how business has been slow. Calzad gruffs and promises that he will send at least a dozen people to his shop in the next week. Radniche’s eyes light up. He mentions that the man who purchased them is a striking fellow, very dapper in black from head to toe. He doesn’t know who it is exactly but knows that he owns a chymic works somewhere nearby.

Time: 7:40pm

Not wanting to spend any more time in the shop, Calzad turns and leaves. He breathes a bit easier once outside the shop, looks around and goes to the main streets. With determination in his eyes, he starts to talk with people of the area. The two of you walk the street, getting information where you can. The late night is acting against you, but eventually, two hours later, you find that the person in question is Master Vorkstag, of Vorkstag and Grine’s Chymic Works.

Time: 9:45pm

The two of you go down to where you’re directed to and find the sign outside of Vorkstag and Grine’s Chymic Works. The building is a large two story brick factory. There are large leaded windows on the outside of the walls. Atop the building is a large smokestack billowing out clouds of yellow smoke. There is also a small tower with a lightening rod atop of it. The front area is a small courtyard, but there is a large iron gate just below the sign. You can see a little of the courtyard, but much of it is hidden by the gate and fencing. The gate is currently locked with a thick chain and lock.

Calzad puts his hand on the gate, pulls it once then turns back to you. His eyes watch you a second then he holds his hand out. “Ok son, I stop at possible B&E. I’m going back to my shop. If you need me, you know where to find me.” He shakes your hand and starts walking down the street back to his ‘home’.

Finishing Time: 10:05pm

Gaming Session 3/1
Trial Day 1

Editor’s note: Of course the day we’re slow enough for me to write this is the only day this week I don’t bring my notes. I’ll try to update with accurate information this weekend.

As we were about to reach the island where the beast allegedly was attacked, we were attacked by a flying beast. It had the body of a lion and a tail that shot spikes.

It came as us from the darkness and swooped low over our boats. One of the riverboat captains jumped in the water and started swimming away. Another fell beneath a volley of shots. As it flew over us, Tuva and myself were able to put enough arrows and bolts into it that it ran away screaming.

After Sativa healed the wounded we made our way onto the island. We decided that I would search the perimeter of the island and the others would search parts of the interior. We found several things:

Body Balm
Purse w/gold and plat
Oil of Keen Edge
Short sword
Silver tools for surgical stuff with a raven mask imprint
broken vial of dark vision
water skin
face of tracker (Nan Kelvin)

I meant to do it all in character, but life has been kicking my ass lately, so I’ll put up all the notes I can think of/have written down.

Regarding the silver tools:
We are trying to find out more about who bought them. So far we know that
a) they were made/sold 18 months ago by zablor and sons
b) they were sold to Vladka Costel
c) we need to find out what she did with them

Evidence we presented at the trial:
His shoulder was not stitched even though he was supposedly bitten by an alligator
He supposedly bled when bit (he’s a golem)
Surgical tools there (too clumsy to use)
A face mask was there (he wouldn’t be able to cut it/clumsy)
Golem is too dumb to stalk people when they’re alone
There was a potion of darkvision (golem wouldn’t need)
Hidden boat (golem is too heavy)
There were rations and a waterskin which a golem doesn’t need

About the justices:
Ambrose Karad – Old male human (chief/douche)
Kasp Allorod – Stern/military male human
Ambreth Drymud – our contact

What we will be investigating next:
Tragedy of hearthstag
- Death of multiple children
- Small girl named Elsa
- Golem came into town carrying the body of a little girl and laughing about it
- Witnesses are not being named

What I think we should do (obviously up for a party vote):
1) Pay people to find out about the silver insturments
2) Ask the golem about the little child/Elsa? See if he laughs?
3) See if we can find out who the witnesses are?
4) Talk to people ABOUT hearthstag?
5) Find a way for us to start rotating people to sleep

Gaming Session 2/21
Farleck Smells

Dear Journal,

We got to Lepistad and found a park to bed down in for the night. When we arrived in the town, there was an impromptu celebration. “The Beast” had been captured. Being as we were all exhausted, we did not take the time to investigate.

The next morning, we woke to discover that we ALL stank (even if Inge insisted I was the smelliest [which I’m pretty sure it was Farleck who one smelliest princess award]). That being said, we did not want to meet with either a professor or a judicator in such a manner, so we ALL went to the bath house to clean up.

After that, we sent Timothy with our farmers to find a place in the make-shift market. The rest of us went to the university to meet with Professor Monte Cristo. When we arrived, we discovered two things of interested. The Beast was captured in his library/museum AND he was missing a statue. While he seemed to think The Beast stole it, we asked if it was found on The Beast and the professor said no. After verifying that the Professor was who he said he was, we retrieved the books and delivered them as the will indicated.

Next we went to the court house. If we thought town was crazy before, the crowd in front of the court house was CA-RAZY. They had already erected a “burning man” for The Beast, who hasn’t even gone on trial. We were able to get information regarding the Judge and get the book delivered to her. At that point, she informed us that she is presiding over The Beast’s trial and does not feel he will have a fair one. She directed us to the barrister and suggested we place ourselves as his assistants.

The barrister needs help. He is a hot mess (and then some). He can’t even complete a sentence without getting flustered. Inge and I have more charisma in our little fingers than that man does (and that’s saying something). He introduced us to The Beast, who looks to be a flesh golem. However, upon questioning, a few in our part feel he has more.. intelligence and emotion?.. than the average golem.

We were then informed that the first witness would be making an appearance the next day. Said witness (jackass) resides in a town nearby. It is said that the jackass saw The Beast in town when people were taken away. However, none of us believe him. He was surly and rude and did not want to answer any of our questions. He did send us to the bone yard, which is where our adventure will pick up next.

Until next time,

Gaming Session 2/7
A letter to Kendra

Dearest Kendra,

It has been a full week since we’ve left Ravengro, and things just keep getting crazier.
We waited in town for a few days while the magistrate completed the official paperwork for our licenses. We are now officially merchants. After those guards a couple cities back tried to steal from us, I’ve been a bit more cautious with our goods. Sattiva and Poppy decided to try their hands at hawking wares, and overall it went pretty well.

We didn’t sell anything the first day, although part of that may have been because our goods are all very good quality. We considered trying to sell them for more money, but decided that that we didn’t want to take advantage of anyone, so we agreed on fair market value.

Sattiva cast some of his more flashy spells to attract customers and the second day we wound up selling a few items. Poppy spent the two days brewing potions in the wagon, and I am really impressed at his skill.

The dwarf sisters spent the two days training our farmers in the use of more martial weapons. They have been a tremendous boon to us, and have made our lives much easier. I also hope that we’ve made THEIR lives better by offering them a chance to see the world and make some money.

The night after we left the town we were attacked in the middle of the night by wolverines! Four of them burrowed under our camp and attacked us. Apparently the dwarf sisters have something against wolverines because Inge punched her fist through two wolverines. That’s not an exaggeration either. She LITERALLY punched her fist through two wolverines. I didn’t see Tuva during the fight, but I heard the farmers talking in whispers about the crazy look in her eyes as she sliced up the animals. I need to remind myself to NOT take a wolverine animal companion.

The next day, we were almost to Lepistadt when we came across what turned out to be a travelling carnival. There were all sorts of interesting people, but they were missing a person. Sattiva and I (and my wolf) managed to track her through a swamp. We thought we heard her screaming, but thanks to Poppy’s quick thinking, he levitated into the air and saw it was some kind of strange beast. It turned out to be a phase spider and it appeared in the middle of us and grabbed Inge.

Inge fought valiantly, but the spider bit and poisoned her. Tuva became enraged and charged the spider cutting a chunk out of it. I also managed to fire off a couple arrows into it. It looked as though it were ready to fall, but ended up disappearing at the last second.
We healed ourselves up, and found the poor carnival girl’s body. There were a couple more interesting items that we took and for some reason THE DWARF SISTERS STARTED EATING PICKLED GARLIC CLOVES!!! Thank about that. We found a jar of pickled garlic cloves in a fetid swamp with no idea how long they’ve been there and they started eating them. I’m even more scared of them now.

We returned the body and the carnival folk gave us a magical dagger in exchange. They didn’t need to, but we appreciate it. We’re just about to follow them into Lepistadt so this is where I leave you. I will write again when I get a moment.

Gaming Session 1/17
In which our adventurers become merchants

Over the course of our travels, our blue cleric of goodness was able to use his mystical powers to make our wagon whole again, allowing us to continue on our way. The first day of travel passed as uneventfully as a fully armed and armored caravan could be. Poppy is brewing some foul smelling concoction in the back of the wagon. I’m not even sure how that’s possible, given that I didn’t see a fire, but his potions have saved my life more than once, so I keep my mouth shut.

Our dwarven sisters were all over the board. Over the course of the day they managed to get in a fist fight with each other, braid each other’s hair, give me a wedgie, and help me gather wood for a campfire. They are the most amazing (and scary) women I have ever met!

As we were getting ready to camp for the night, we saw a group of…things that were walking along the road with torches. Poppy and I scouted ahead and found out it was four poor farmers. Their clothes were threadbare and they looked like they had almost no supplies. Turns out they were a group of farmers whose family and farms had been destroyed by marauding orcs. They were SLIGHTLY suspicious of us. And by that I mean we basically had to beg them to come to the protection of our camp for the night. Over the course of the night we realized how useful their knowledge of the local area was and we asked them to accompany us.

It’s fortunate for them that they decided to travel with us, because the next day a war band of orcs attacked us while we were travelling. The highlight of the fight was when one of the remaining orcs had to decide if he wanted to go towards the large size dwarf, the flaming sphere, or the spiritual longsword. After they were dead we pulled 13 ranseurs, 13 sets of studded leather armor, and 56 javelins off them.

Our farmer friends helped us get into the next city without ANY issues at all, and we made an arrangement for them to be our animal handlers/porters/city liasons for the low, low cost of 1g per person per month. In the city, we did some negotiating and got official backing from the city with corresponding paperwork saying that we are legitimate merchants. We have legal standing to sell goods and move freely between cities.

We also decided to ditch our heavy horse and pick up some more light horses. And another smaller cart for extra wagon supplies/horse food/etc.

Our party of ‘adventurers’ is now headed to the big city (can’t remember its name) with:
4 porters/former farmers
5 light horses
1 small (2 wheel) cart
1 awesome kickass amazing cart
5 insane adventurers that are incapable of packing light
